Vietnam issues storm and cold‑weather warnings for northern coastal areas

The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting warned that a low‑pressure system is producing strong north‑east winds of force 5‑6, occasional gusts up to 7‑8, heavy rain, thunderstorms and the possibility of tornadoes across the northern Gulf of Tonkin, the northern South China Sea, the Cà Mau‑An Giang coastal zone and the Gulf of Thailand. Authorities were urged to monitor updates closely, alert ship captains, keep rescue teams on standby and ensure communication for rapid response.

A separate cold‑air surge moving southward will bring a major cooling rainstorm to northern Vietnam from the night of 8 June into 9 June, with temperatures dropping to 21‑25 °C in the north and strong gusts of force 4‑5 over the sea, generating waves of 1.5‑2.5 m. The forecast highlighted risks of flash flooding, landslides and maritime hazards, advising local governments and fishermen to take precautionary measures.
