Vietnam Expands Scholarships and Education Reforms for 2026
The Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision 1826/QĐ‑BGĐT, listing 111 university majors in 15 strategic groups that will qualify for government scholarships of 37‑55 million VND per year under Decree 179/2026.
Thủy Lợi University launched a new “Talent” scholarship worth up to 150 million VND per batch for incoming students and confirmed that 22 of its 47 programmes will receive the same government scholarship support.
Ho Chi Minh City approved a pilot scheme allowing principals at 246 schools to directly recruit teachers, including foreign staff, and to sign employment contracts with them through 2030, aiming to improve staffing flexibility and reduce recruitment delays.
The government also identified 12 leading universities in Hanoi to become focal points for STEM and strategic‑technology training, with investments targeted at semiconductor, AI, quantum and biotech fields.
Vietnamese experts abroad are supporting these efforts through online seminars on semiconductor technology and scholarship programmes, linking diaspora expertise to domestic talent development.
