Vietnam emerges as a global innovation partner, shifting from tech adopter to creator

Vietnam is repositioning itself from a passive consumer of advanced technologies to a core participant in the global innovation ecosystem. Government policy now treats science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as essential growth drivers, while the domestic talent pool—engineers skilled in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cloud computing and cybersecurity—supports this shift.

Leading firms such as VinFast and FPT are cited as examples of Vietnamese companies that design, develop and market high‑value products abroad, competing in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The Better Choice Awards 2026 highlighted the country’s transformation, recognizing Vietnamese enterprises that move from market reception to active co‑creation of new technologies.

The combined effect is a rapid increase in domestic R&D, greater export of innovative goods, and a stronger presence of Vietnamese brands on the world technology stage.
