Vietnam intensifies campaign to identify war martyr remains

Vietnam is conducting a large-scale national campaign to search for, collect, and identify the remains of war martyrs. Under the ‘500-day campaign’ led by National Steering Committee 515, authorities have successfully collected 1,715 sets of remains, representing 24.5% of the target.

DNA sampling has reached 58.4% of the goal, with 124,762 graves processed. Several provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh, have completed over 90% of their sampling progress. In Ha Tinh province, officials have completed the first phase of DNA sampling for unidentified graves across all communes and cemeteries, with samples handed over to the Military Institute of Forensic Science for testing.

Ongoing efforts include verifying information at key sites such as Tan Son Nhat Airport, Bac Son Medical Hill in Dong Nai, and the Con Tien base in Quang Tri. Preparations are also underway for search missions in Laos and Cambodia during the 2026-2027 dry season.
