Vietnam launches DNA drive to identify fallen soldiers' remains

In Vĩnh Lộc commune, officials collected DNA samples from unidentified war dead to confirm the identities of martyrs, part of a broader effort to honor Vietnam's military heritage.

In Điện Biên province, the “500 days night” campaign accelerated the exhumation of five burial sites, securing two viable DNA samples that were sent to the provincial forensic center for analysis. Military and party officials highlighted the work as a solemn duty to restore the names and hometowns of the fallen, providing closure for families and reinforcing national remembrance.

Both initiatives underscore a coordinated government push to complete missing‑person dossiers for war heroes, combining archaeological work, forensic science, and community involvement.
