Vietnam advances major transport projects including Long Thanh airport and highway links

Vietnam is accelerating several large‑scale transport initiatives. The Long Thanh International Airport is slated to open commercially in December 2026, with 34 foreign airlines and domestic carriers registering interest and plans for 21 new routes that could add about 2 million passengers annually by 2030. The state‑owned Airports Corporation is also preparing joint operations with Tan Son Nhat to balance traffic.

In the south, Dong Nai province began construction of three road projects linking the city to Long Thanh airport and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4, including a 29 000 billion‑dong (≈$1.2 bn) Mã Đà bridge designed to preserve wildlife corridors. Meanwhile, Bắc Ninh completed land‑clearance for the Gia Bình airport’s APEC‑2027 zone, relocating over 1 700 households and moving 8 500 graves. The Hanoi‑Gia Bình highway connection is largely ready, though final land‑acquisition and utility relocations remain a bottleneck.

Additional projects include a 10 000 billion‑dong coastal road in Lâm Đồng and the completion of a 4.3‑km coastal stretch in Gia Lai, both aimed at expanding regional connectivity.
