Vietnam launches maritime nation program for 2026‑2030

The Vietnamese government issued Resolution No. 218/NQ‑CP on 7 August 2026, outlining an action program to implement the Party’s Resolution No. 20‑NQ/TW on building Vietnam into a strong maritime nation. The program sets out tasks for 2026‑2030 and a vision to 2045, directing ministries, agencies and local authorities to develop modern, green, and smart marine economic sectors, expand maritime infrastructure, advance science, technology and digital transformation, protect the marine environment, and strengthen national defence and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Key priorities include reforming maritime governance, fostering large‑scale marine enterprises, promoting high‑tech innovation, and establishing marine economic zones and centers. The plan also emphasizes climate‑change adaptation and ecosystem conservation, with specific performance targets to be met by 2030.
