Vietnam launches missions to recover martyrs' remains in Cambodia

Vietnamese military units have launched new missions to search for and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia.

In An Giang province, the K92 and K93 teams have been deployed for the XXVI phase (dry season 2026-2027). The K92 team will operate in Kampot, Kep, Preah Sihanouk, and Koh Kong provinces, while the K93 team will focus on Takeo and Kampong Speu. Since 2001, these teams have recovered 6,871 sets of remains.

Simultaneously, Military Region 9's K90 team is set to continue surveying and searching across 16 districts and cities within Cambodia's Kandal and Kampong Chhnang provinces starting in September 2026. A recent coordination agreement was signed to facilitate the search for martyrs whose burial locations remain unconfirmed. Between 2001 and the 2025-2026 dry season, the K90 team recovered 1,729 sets of remains in these two provinces through cooperation with Cambodian authorities and local residents.
