Vietnam launches national child protection and labor prevention program
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has launched the National Program on Child Protection and Prevention of Illegal Child Labor for the 2026–2030 period. The initiative, based on Decision No. 1415/QD-TTg, aims to ensure a safe environment for all children and provide support for those facing violence, sexual abuse, or exploitation.
Key targets for 2030 include reducing the annual rate of child violence and sexual abuse by at least 5% and lowering the child labor rate for ages 5 to 17 to below 1.1%. The program also aims for 100% of provinces and cities to implement integrated child protection service models, with 95% of communes deploying interdisciplinary service models and 100% of communes establishing friendly investigation rooms.
Vice Minister of Health Le Duc Luan noted that child protection faces significant challenges, including rising global violence due to economic recession, inflation, and natural disasters. He highlighted that child labor is particularly difficult to monitor in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors, as well as within small household businesses and remote areas. To improve management, the program intends to register 100% of children requiring protection in a shared national database system.
