Vietnam launches national program to master strategic technologies by 2030
The Vietnamese government approved a special national programme for science, technology and innovation in strategic technologies on 6 August 2026. The plan targets mastery of at least four strategic technologies by 2030 and the development and commercialisation of 15 strategic‑technology products, with five of them reaching regional or international markets. It aims for an average localisation rate of about 40 % and the creation of at least 20 enterprises capable of handling strategic‑technology products, including five that will participate in global value chains.
For the 2031‑2035 period the programme expands to six strategic technologies, 25 products (15 for export) and at least 30 specialised enterprises. Five mission groups guide implementation: improving policies, R&D, market support, human‑resource and international cooperation development, and monitoring and coordination.
