Vietnam hosts National Innovation Day 2026 to drive technological autonomy
Vietnam held the 2026 National Innovation Day under the theme “Innovation - The Driving Force for the Development of All Society.” The event, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, aimed to promote technological autonomy and the commercialization of research. Officials emphasized a multi-sector approach where the State creates favorable policies, universities provide knowledge, and businesses integrate new technologies into production.
Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), noted that Vietnam is transitioning from a focus on startups toward mastering technology and institutionalizing innovation through legal frameworks like Resolution 57 and Resolution 19. The event featured exhibitions with 150 domestic and international booths.
During the event, Na Ki Hong, General Director of Samsung Vietnam, highlighted the importance of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) companies shifting from simple manufacturing to research and value creation. He noted that Samsung's mobile phone plants in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen are projected to reach a cumulative export turnover of $500 billion by June 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country's high-tech manufacturing sector.
