Vietnam aquaculture exports target $12 billion for 2026
Vietnam is positioned to reach its annual aquaculture export target of $12 billion following strong performance in the first nine months of 2026. Total aquaculture production reached approximately 7.9 million tons during this period, representing a 3.9% year-on-year increase.
Key drivers of this growth include a 7.1% rise in shrimp production and a 10.7% increase in pangasius exports, which totaled $1.74 billion. Shrimp exports alone accounted for $3.75 billion, or roughly 41% of the total aquaculture export value.
Despite these gains, the sector faces challenges including rising input costs, supply competition, and slowing demand in certain major markets. To maintain momentum, officials emphasize the need for improved efficiency in production, processing, and marketing.
Broadly, Vietnam's economy showed significant strength in the first nine months of 2026, with GDP estimated to have grown by 9.01%. This growth was supported by a 11.21% expansion in industry and construction, alongside a 14.5% increase in international tourism arrivals.
