Vietnam has officially commenced the 2026-2027 school year, with opening ceremonies held nationwide. The celebrations were conducted through a combination of in-person and online formats, featuring a central ceremony point at Muong Khương Boarding School in Lao Cai province.

A major focus of this academic year is the implementation of a new educational model involving school mergers and administrative reorganization. This restructuring aims to optimize resources and improve educational quality. In Hanoi, the public education system has been reorganized, reducing the number of units to 1,093. Similarly, Can Tho has completed its network reorganization, including the merger of secondary and high schools to consolidate resources.

The new school year also marks the inauguration of several new boarding schools in border and remote areas, such as those in Muong Khương, Ia Púch, and various locations in Da Nang and Quang Ninh. These facilities are designed to support students in disadvantaged regions. Additionally, leadership figures, including Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and President Tô Lâm, have issued messages emphasizing the need for educational innovation, digital transformation, and a focus on developing student capacity to meet the country's new development stage.
