Vietnam Ministry of Construction issues urban greenery management guidelines

The Ministry of Construction has issued Circular No. 82/2026/VBHN-TT-BXD to standardize the management and use of urban greenery. The guidelines emphasize selecting plant types based on specific street characteristics and spatial constraints to improve the environment and urban living quality.

For major roads with sidewalk widths exceeding 5 meters, the guidelines suggest planting type 2 or type 3 trees. Medium-sized roads with sidewalks between 3 and 5 meters should utilize type 1 or type 2 trees. In narrow areas where sidewalks are under 3 meters, the regulations recommend utilizing existing trees, planting in sparse locations away from overhead wires, or using climbing plants and potted greenery to avoid damaging infrastructure.

Regarding dividers, those under 2 meters wide should only feature grass or low shrubs. Dividers 2 meters or wider may accommodate straight-trunked trees that do not obstruct traffic safety. The guidelines also suggest using climbing plants on bridge pillars and overpasses to increase urban green coverage.
