Vietnam health authorities ramp up disease prevention amid rising infections

Vietnam is facing a significant rise in infectious diseases. In the first eight months of 2026, the country recorded nearly 100,000 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease, representing a more than 2.5-fold increase compared to the same period last year. In response, the Ministry of Health has called for strengthened prevention measures, particularly within schools.

Dengue fever outbreaks are also being monitored across several provinces. Dong Nai has recorded over 9,000 cases and five deaths since the start of 2026, with risks increasing due to the rainy season. In Hai Phong, authorities are working to control emerging outbreaks in high-risk districts. Meanwhile, Hanoi reported 207 new dengue cases in a single week, though this figure marks a decrease from the previous week. Hanoi's cumulative total for 2026 stands at 2,382 cases.

Health authorities are emphasizing environmental hygiene, mosquito control, and enhanced surveillance in communities and educational institutions to mitigate the spread of these diseases.
