Vietnam Ministry of Home Affairs proposes 2027 Tet holiday schedules

The Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed two options for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet Dinh Mui) holiday schedule for civil servants, public employees, and workers.

Option 1 proposes a 7-day continuous break from Thursday, February 4, 2027, to Wednesday, February 10, 2027. This includes five statutory holiday days and two compensatory days off due to weekly rest days coinciding with the holiday. The Ministry recommends this option because it allows the holiday to begin on the 28th day of the lunar month, providing more time for people working far from home to travel, shop, and prepare.

Option 2 proposes a 10-day continuous break from Friday, February 5, 2027, to Sunday, February 14, 2027. This longer period includes five statutory holiday days, two compensatory days, one swapped working day, and two weekly rest days. However, the Ministry noted that starting the holiday on the 29th day of the lunar month could increase pressure on transportation and traffic in major urban areas and transit hubs.
