Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade faces scrutiny over asset mismanagement

The Government Inspectorate has issued a conclusion regarding the management of redundant land and housing assets within the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The inspection revealed that several units within the Ministry failed to comply with directives to relocate to the new headquarters at 655 Pham Van Dong, opting instead to continue using old premises. This non-compliance has resulted in significant workspace imbalances, with five administrative headquarters facing a combined deficit of 7,082.1 square meters, while two others possess a surplus of 4,617 square meters.

The Ministry manages 139 land and housing facilities, including nine identified as redundant assets that require urgent management plans. The Inspectorate noted delays in processing these redundant assets, risking property degradation and wasted land resources. Additionally, errors were found in asset inventory and documentation, including a failure to record a 9-square-meter property in Hanoi since 2016. The Government Inspectorate has recommended that the Ministry strictly handle the failure to comply with relocation policies and adjust surplus areas accordingly.
