Vietnam National Assembly discusses land, housing, and military law reforms
During the first extraordinary session of the 16th National Assembly, Vietnamese lawmakers discussed significant legislative reforms concerning land and housing, as well as national defense and military regulations.
Discussions regarding the 2024 Land Law and 2023 Housing Law focused on addressing practical management challenges and improving institutional frameworks to unlock national resources for sustainable development. The session emphasized the importance of aligning policies with reality to drive economic growth, drawing parallels to historical reforms like ‘Khoan 10’.
Additionally, several military and defense-related laws are set to take effect on September 1, 2026. These amendments include the Law on National Defense, the Law on Officers of the People's Army, and the Law on Military Service, among others. The changes aim to modernize the military and align with local government models. Notable updates include the restructuring of commune-level military commands, where the position of Political Officer will be held by the commune Party Secretary.
