Vietnam orders highway signage for safe distance enforcement
Vietnam's Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has directed that signage must be installed on expressway sections where penalties for failing to maintain safe following distances are applied. This directive aims to ensure drivers are fully aware of regulations to encourage compliance.
During a review meeting regarding safe distance regulations for road vehicles, the Deputy Prime Minister noted existing limitations in the legal framework, policy communication, and implementation. He instructed the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security and local authorities to urgently place signs on relevant highway stretches.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Construction has been tasked with researching amendments to technical standards to ensure safe distances are appropriate for varying speeds, road conditions, traffic density, terrain, and weather. The Ministry of Public Security is also required to incorporate safe distance scenarios and regulations into driver training curricula for license issuance. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that enforcement should follow a suitable roadmap, combining propaganda and guidance, and must only be implemented when infrastructure and equipment meet necessary standards to avoid causing traffic congestion.
