Vietnam Parliament proposes raising retirement age for military officers

On 8 August, the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam debated a draft law amending the Law on Military Officers. Delegate Pham Van Hoà of Đồng Tháp province urged the legislature to study extending the retirement age for military officers in peacetime, arguing that early retirement wastes highly trained personnel and could affect the social‑insurance fund.

Hoà emphasized that any change should consider the specific duties of different branches, allowing earlier retirement for combat‑intensive roles while extending service for officers in administrative or local positions. The discussion also touched on related retirement provisions for defence workers raised by delegate Huỳnh Văn Ngôn.
