Vietnam military and security personnel retirement policies

Legislative and ministerial discussions in Vietnam have recently focused on the terms of service and post-retirement support for security and military personnel.

On 8 August, the 16th National Assembly debated a draft law to amend the Law on Military Officers. Delegate Pham Van Hoa proposed extending the retirement age for officers during peacetime to prevent the loss of highly trained personnel and to protect the social-insurance fund. The proposal suggested differentiating retirement ages based on specific duties, such as allowing earlier retirement for combat roles while extending service for administrative positions.

Following these discussions, the Ministry of Public Security sought feedback on a draft decree regarding benefits for retired People's Public Security officers. The proposed regulations include vacation allowances equal to active-duty officers, medical support for critical illnesses, and meal allowances for inpatient treatment. The decree also outlines provisions for funeral support and information services for former officers.
