BRICS Summit in New Delhi features proposals from Vietnam and China

The 18th BRICS Summit, held in New Delhi, India, marks the 20th anniversary of the grouping. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, presiding over the 2026 summit, emphasized priorities of resilience, innovation, and sustainability, while calling for global governance reforms centered on representativeness and responsiveness.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, attending as a BRICS partner country, proposed three strategic directions: strengthening economic resilience and self-reliance, revitalizing growth engines through inclusive and sustainable sources, and enhancing policy coordination in trade and investment. On the sidelines, Prime Minister Hưng met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to discuss strengthening political trust and accelerating bilateral agreements regarding investment and double taxation avoidance.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also addressed the summit, proposing five initiatives to deepen cooperation and advocating for a multipolar world that upholds international law and multilateralism. The summit included discussions on regional stability, economic growth, and cooperation across sectors such as energy security, agriculture, and technology.
