Vietnam partners with Singapore firm to elevate airport standards and revises national airport master plan

Sun Group and Changi Airports International (CAI) signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to develop and operate Vietnamese airports to international standards. The partnership will cover the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and service development for projects such as the Phú Quốc International Airport expansion, with CAI bringing experience from over 60 airports in more than 20 countries.

Separately, the Vietnamese Civil Aviation Authority released a draft amendment to the national airport master plan for 2021‑2030, extending to a 2050 vision. The plan foresees 33 airports by 2030 (17 international, 16 domestic) rising to 36 by 2050, aiming to serve about 236 million passengers annually and to give over 95 % of the population access to an airport within 100 km. New airports proposed for inclusion include Gia Bình, Thọ Chu, Vân Phong, Măng Đen and Ninh Bình, while upgrades are slated for Quảng Trị, Côn Đảo and Cao Bằng. Biên Hòa and Hải Phòng international airports were removed from the plan.
