Vietnam performing arts week to debut in Paris

The first Vietnamese performing arts week in France, titled ‘Vietnam en Scène’ (Vietnam on Stage), will take place in Paris from October 24 to 31. The event aims to showcase the diversity of Vietnamese stage arts, ranging from traditional forms like water puppetry, chèo, tuồng, and cải lương to modern dance and spoken theater.

Participating organizations include the Vietnam National Theatre of Traditional Arts, the Vietnam Puppet Theatre, and the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, alongside various French artists. The program is designed as a journey from cultural heritage to contemporary creation, fostering dialogue between traditional roots and modern expressions.

Scheduled performances include water puppetry in central Paris, plays at the Marinée Theatre, and collaborations at the Grand Rex and Carreau du Temple. Vietnamese Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai noted that the event serves as a platform for cultural encounter between the two nations, which are comprehensive strategic partners. The festival also seeks to pave the way for future artistic collaborations, including residencies and co-productions.
