Vietnam pig prices decline toward production costs
Pig prices in Vietnam have continued a downward trend as of August 15, with market rates in several regions approaching the actual cost of livestock production. This decline follows a two-month period of continuous price drops, with some areas seeing reductions of 5,000 to 7,000 VND/kg.
In Northern Vietnam, prices have fluctuated between 56,000 and 58,000 VND/kg. In the Central and Highlands regions, rates have dropped to as low as 56,000 VND/kg in provinces such as Ha Tinh, Gia Lai, and Lam Dong. The Southern market remains among the lowest in the country, with prices in provinces like Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and An Giang reaching 56,000 VND/kg, while Ho Chi Minh City maintains a higher regional average of 58,000 VND/kg.
Farm owners express concern that if prices continue to fall by an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 VND/kg due to weak consumption, they may face significant financial losses.
