Vietnam plans 25.1 trillion VND expansion of Pháp Vân‑Cầu Giẽ expressway to up to 12 lanes

Phương Thành Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction to widen the Pháp Vân‑Cầu Giẽ expressway, a 30‑km corridor in Hanoi, from its current six‑lane configuration to ten‑12 lanes. The plan, based on a public‑private partnership (PPP), estimates a total investment of about 25 101 billion VND, including over 1 700 billion VND for land acquisition, more than 16 900 billion VND for construction and equipment, plus reserves and loan interest. The state would contribute roughly 64 % of the capital (about 16 120 billion VND), with a toll‑recovery period of 21‑22 years.

The upgrade would add multiple over‑passes and expand the roadway on both sides, creating nine interchanges (seven built in the first phase). Traffic on the route has risen about 6 % annually, reaching roughly 85 000 vehicle‑equivalents per day in 2024, well above its design capacity of 55 400. Authorities expect the expansion to relieve chronic congestion at Hanoi’s southern gateway and accommodate future demand.
