Vietnam pledges $300,000 in aid to Nepal after deadly floods

Vietnam has pledged $300,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to Nepal to assist in recovery efforts following devastating flash floods and landslides. The disaster, triggered by a glacier collapse on August 26 near the Nepal-China border, has resulted in at least 1,225 deaths and left thousands missing.

In response to the catastrophe, Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has called on the international community to view assistance as “climate reparations” rather than mere humanitarian aid. Khanal emphasized that Nepal contributes less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions but suffers disproportionately from melting Himalayan glaciers and permafrost. He argued that protecting the Himalayan region must be a global responsibility, as the rivers originating there support over 2 billion people across Asia.
