Vietnam PM Lê Minh Hưng chairs meeting to advance major law reforms

On 8 July 2026 Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng chaired a government session on law‑building, attended by senior Party officials, ministers and local representatives. The cabinet reviewed and gave preliminary opinions on dozens of draft laws and proposals slated for the upcoming extraordinary session of the National Assembly. Key items included amendments to the Law on Real‑Estate Business and the Law on Housing, a draft Criminal Code amendment, a policy file on the criminal investigation agency, and a renaming of the Special Urban Law to the Law on Urban Development. The meeting also covered infrastructure projects such as the Lao Cai‑Hanoi‑Hai Phong railway line, the Hanoi Belt‑way 5, and the establishment of a centrally‑run Quang Ninh city. Ministers were urged to incorporate feedback, resolve overlapping and contradictory regulations—especially in land, planning, investment, construction and environmental matters—and accelerate the submission of reports to the National Assembly. The government also agreed on reforms to the Food Safety Law, emphasizing risk‑based supply‑chain control, digital data systems and stricter street‑food oversight. A parallel directive called for a comprehensive review to eliminate duplicated decrees and streamline administrative procedures across sectors.
