Vietnam leaders honor war veterans on 79th anniversary

On 15 July, senior Vietnamese officials marked the 79th anniversary of the nation’s War Invalids‑Martyrs Day by visiting veteran‑care facilities and memorial sites across the country. President‑General Secretary Tô Lâm toured the Thuận Thành veteran nursing centre in Bắc Ninh, presenting gifts to 82 severely disabled veterans from 13 provinces and urging a prompt review of all policies supporting people with contributions and their families. Party Secretariat Trần Cẩm Tú led a delegation to the Đầu Đống Lộc historic site in Hà Tĩnh, laying wreaths and recalling the sacrifice of more than 4,000 youth volunteers, including ten women. Youth groups also lit torches at the Vị Xuyên national martyrs’ cemetery in Tuyên Quang, honoring nearly 2,000 fallen soldiers. Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu visited Hero Kăn Lịch in Huế province, presenting gifts and thanking her for her wartime combat record. Throughout the visits, officials stressed the government’s commitment to fully implement the “500‑day‑night” campaign to locate and identify the remains of missing martyrs and to ensure comprehensive support – medical, social and economic – for veterans, war‑invalids and their families.
