Vietnam police fine bus driver and female driver for unsafe phone use and highway reversing
On 1 August 2026, the Hanoi Traffic Police identified bus driver Nguyễn Hữu T (born 1976) using a handheld mobile phone while operating a city bus on Võ Văn Kiệt street. The violation, captured by surveillance cameras, resulted in an administrative fine of 4 million–6 million VND and a deduction of four driver‑license points.
The following day, 2 August 2026, Highway Police Unit 6 on the Vĩnh Hảo‑Phan Thiet highway recorded a 45‑year‑old female driver, D. T. H, reversing her car for a long distance at kilometre 163. The dangerous maneuver, also captured on camera, led to a fine of 35 million VND and a loss of ten license points. Both incidents prompted police warnings that using phones while driving or reversing on high‑speed roads endangers all road users and will be strictly penalised.
