Vietnam police fine drivers for fake plates and illegal parking

In Bac Ninh Province, police discovered a VinFast VF 7 using a counterfeit licence plate (98A‑626) that had been issued to a Ford Everest. The driver was fined 20‑26 million VND for affixing an unauthorised plate and an additional 16‑18 million VND for operating the vehicle without a valid registration certificate. The fake plate was seized and ten driver‑license points were deducted.

Across major Vietnamese cities, traffic authorities are also cracking down on vehicles that stop or park on small roads despite signage prohibiting such actions. Under Decree 168/2024, stopping where a "Cấm dừng xe và đỗ xe" sign is posted carries a fine of 600 000‑800 000 VND, while parking violations attract 800 000‑1 million VND. If the illegal stop or park leads to an accident, penalties rise dramatically to 20‑22 million VND and a ten‑point licence deduction. Police stress that drivers must observe all signs, not merely seek convenient spots on minor streets.
