Vietnam police fine two drivers for high blood alcohol and speeding on Nội Bài–Lào Cai highway

On August 5–7, the Vietnam Traffic Police (CSGT) stopped a car and a motorbike on the Nội Bài–Lào Cai highway for severe alcohol violations and speeding. The car driver, identified as N. T. A, 44, recorded a breath‑alcohol concentration of 0.949 mg/L—more than double the 0.4 mg/L legal limit—and was traveling 91 km/h, 11 km/h over the posted limit. The motorbike rider, L. V., 44, was measured at 0.83 mg/L, also exceeding twice the limit.

The car driver was fined 40 million VND, his licence suspended for 23 months and the vehicle detained for up to 10 days. The motorbike rider received a 14 million VND fine, the same licence suspension and vehicle detention. CSGT warned that combining alcohol with high‑speed driving on the highway greatly raises the risk of serious accidents.
