Phu Tho police dismantle transnational money laundering ring

Phu Tho police, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and the Japanese National Police Agency, have dismantled a sophisticated transnational money laundering ring. The operation targeted high-tech, anonymous criminal activities involving the fraudulent takeover of corporate accounts in Japan.

On March 10, 2025, a group of foreign nationals impersonated bank employees to defraud 15 Japanese citizens. The victims transferred approximately 707 million Yen (equivalent to 117 billion VND) into three bank accounts managed by the fraud group: Deep Impact, Venture Investors, and Luna Development.

To conceal the illicit funds, the criminals converted the money into cryptocurrencies, such as USDT and ETH, before transferring them to foreign criminal entities. The ring utilized numerous intermediary accounts to obscure the money trail. Authorities have prosecuted seven individuals in connection with the money laundering and illegal cross-border currency transfer operations.
