Vietnam Police set new electronic foreign temporary‑residence registration rules
The Ministry of Public Security issued Circular 87/2026/TT‑BCA on 9 June 2026, coming into force on 24 July 2026. It requires foreign nationals staying in Vietnam to register their temporary‑residence details through an online system. Registrants must create an account, enter personal data (name, gender, birth date, nationality, passport number, permit dates, and intended stay length) and update any changes immediately.
Account holders are responsible for security; if an account is compromised, inactive for 12 months, or contains inaccurate information, it will be locked and the holder must request reactivation by providing updated data. Local police stations receive the electronic data 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Border outposts and designated border‑area units may also access the information using accounts issued by the Ministry.
The circular outlines procedures for reporting lost or misused accounts, the timelines for data submission, and the obligations of accommodation providers to assist foreign guests in completing the registration upon arrival.
