Vietnam Police Warn Against Zalo Scams Involving Personal Documents

The Quảng Nguyên police in Vietnam stopped a fraud attempt that used the messaging app Zalo to solicit personal documents and photographs. A woman in Vinh Quang was contacted by callers posing as Hanoi police, who claimed her citizen ID had been used in drug trafficking and asked her to send copies of the ID, a new photo, and bank card images via Zalo. After the police intervened, the victim avoided potential loss of a large sum of money. Authorities warned citizens not to share identity documents, bank details, OTP codes or install unknown applications in response to unsolicited calls, messages or links, and to report any suspicious requests to the nearest police station. The warning emphasizes that state agencies never request personal data through such channels.
