Vietnam Social Security warns of insurance-related phishing scams

Vietnam Social Security has issued a warning regarding new fraudulent schemes targeting citizens regarding social insurance and health insurance. Scammers are impersonating local social security officials or police officers to contact individuals via telephone.

These criminals often claim that victims are eligible for specific health insurance benefits or refunds for 2026. They create a sense of urgency by citing errors in electronic identification files or VssID system issues, pressuring victims to resolve the matter immediately to avoid losing benefits.

To facilitate the scam, perpetrators use Zalo to connect with victims and provide links to fake public service portals or .apk files for installation. Once installed, particularly on Android devices, the malware requests accessibility permissions to gain full control of the phone. This allows the attackers to monitor screen activity, steal banking passwords, and intercept OTP messages to transfer funds to fraudulent accounts.
