Vietnam police warn of social and health insurance scams

Police and cybersecurity authorities in Vietnam have issued warnings regarding sophisticated scams targeting social insurance (BHXH) and health insurance (BHYT) beneficiaries. Fraudsters are reportedly impersonating social insurance officials, police officers, or local commune authorities to steal personal information and assets.

One specific tactic involves targeting parents by claiming they need to “integrate” or “update” their children’s health insurance information on platforms like VNeID or VssID. Scammers use urgent language, such as claiming electronic identification files are erroneous or that insurance refunds are pending, to pressure victims into clicking malicious links, scanning QR codes, or installing unverified applications.

Authorities advise citizens to remain vigilant against unexpected calls or messages and to follow the “4 no’s, 1 proactive” principle to protect their personal data and financial assets.
