Vietnam Police Warn of Urgent Scam Calls Targeting Da Lat Residents

The Cam Ly ward police in Da Lat, Lâm Đồng province, have issued a warning to all residents who receive text messages or phone calls that claim to be “urgent.” The scams create a sense of panic and pressure victims to act quickly – for example, by claiming a bank account will be locked, impersonating law‑enforcement officials, reporting a relative’s accident, or offering a limited‑time investment. Victims are urged to transfer money, provide personal details, or share one‑time passwords (OTPs) under the threat of missing an opportunity.

Police advise a three‑step defence: stop and stay calm, check the content and source, and verify the information through official channels before taking any action. They stress that no legitimate authority will ask for OTPs, passwords, or personal data via unsolicited messages, and warn against installing unknown apps or clicking suspicious links. The warning notes that scammers target people of all ages, including well‑educated young users, and encourages public sharing of alerts to protect families and friends.
