Vietnam Politburo orders criminal law reforms for economy and technology
On 24 June 2026 the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam adopted Conclusion No. 56‑KL/TW, directing a rapid review and amendment of criminal‑law policy in the economic and technology sectors. The Party calls for reducing prison terms for economic and technological offences while increasing economic‑penalty measures to encourage investment, and for applying stricter criminal sanctions to environmental, food‑safety and public‑health violations.
The resolution also stresses shifting from reactive enforcement to proactive risk management, aligning Vietnam’s laws with international standards, and accelerating the 2026‑2035 National Crime‑Prevention Programme. It orders professional, modern investigation and prosecution, effective asset recovery, and a streamlined, efficient structure for public‑order and security agencies at all levels.
