Vietnam positions itself as key bridge between Russia and ASEAN, deepening diplomatic ties
Vietnam is emphasizing its role as a strategic conduit between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng met Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting Vietnam’s long‑standing, high‑trust partnership with Moscow and its active participation in ASEAN’s leadership. The country cites its independent, multilateral foreign policy, geographic location on major Asia‑Pacific sea lanes, extensive economic cooperation with Russia in energy and industry, and cultural links built through decades of educational exchange.
At the same time, Vietnamese authorities have hosted visits from the United States Navy, an Indian Navy fleet, and senior Cuban officials, underscoring Hanoi’s broader outreach to major powers while promoting regional stability and cooperation.
