Vietnam prepares for 2026 National Day holiday and 2027 wage reviews
Vietnam is preparing for the 2026 National Day holiday and potential adjustments to the regional minimum wage for 2027.
For the National Day holiday on September 2, 2026, civil servants and public employees are scheduled for a five-day break from August 29 to September 2, 2026, following a work-day swap. Employees in the business sector are entitled to two days of paid leave, which can be scheduled as September 1 and 2, or September 2 and 3. Employers must notify staff of their chosen schedule at least 30 days in advance. Under the 2019 Labor Code, employees working on the holiday are entitled to overtime pay.
Regarding compensation, the National Wage Council has begun discussions and negotiations for the 2027 regional minimum wage. The Ministry of Home Affairs is collaborating with council members to review factors such as the minimum cost of living, consumer price indices, economic growth, and labor productivity. These reviews aim to provide recommendations to the Government to ensure wage adjustments remain harmonious with market fluctuations and the living standards of workers and their families.
