Vietnam floods cause three deaths and inundate 20,000 homes

Severe flooding and heavy rainfall across Vietnam have resulted in three deaths, the destruction of eight houses, and damage to 111 others. Approximately 20,000 homes have been inundated, with over 5,000 remaining flooded in low-lying and riverside areas of Hanoi and Ninh Binh.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung issued an official dispatch on September 21, directing ministries and local authorities to proactively respond to the floods and manage the aftermath. Authorities have been instructed to mobilize personnel and equipment to reach isolated areas, ensure the supply of food and water, and organize evacuations for vulnerable groups.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that natural disasters may continue to develop in a complicated manner. Forecasts indicate heavy rainfall of 120-250mm, locally exceeding 400mm, for Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and southern regions through September 24. There is also a risk of flash floods, landslides, and the Mekong River reaching alert level 1.
