Vietnam issues urgent disaster response orders amid storm and flooding

The Vietnamese government has issued urgent directives to manage the impact of heavy rainfall and Storm No. 4. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung signed Dispatch No. 57/CĐ-TTg on August 21, 2026, calling for proactive disaster response and rapid recovery from recent flooding, lightning, and wind damage.

Authorities are instructed to review and evacuate residents from high-risk areas prone to deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides. In Nghe An province, heavy rains have already caused road inundation, washed away temporary bridges, and isolated remote villages in Tam Thai commune, threatening local livelihoods and upcoming school terms.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that a tropical depression in the Gulf of Tonkin is expected to strengthen into a storm, bringing widespread heavy rain to Northeast Vietnam. The Vietnam People's Army has also issued emergency orders to its units to maintain readiness, prepare resources, and assist local governments in securing homes and evacuating vulnerable populations.
