Vietnam Prioritises Battery Storage in New Energy Development Plan
Vietnam’s revised National Energy Development Plan VIII places battery energy‑storage systems (BESS) among the top priorities for the country’s clean‑energy transition. The plan targets 10‑16 GW of storage capacity by 2030 and aims for renewable sources (excluding hydro) to supply 28‑36 % of total installed capacity, with solar capacity projected at 46‑73 GW. A new legal decree (No 243/2026/ND‑CP) creates the framework for BESS integration and supports solar self‑consumption projects. Experts, such as LITHACO’s Tran Quoc Tam, describe BESS as the “memory” of the grid, balancing daytime solar generation with night‑time demand and reducing reliance on fossil‑fuel plants.
At Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2026, global PV inverter and storage maker Sungrow showcased a range of localized solutions, including low‑voltage residential hybrid inverters, stack‑able battery modules, and utility‑scale storage systems. The company highlighted products designed for Vietnam’s hot, humid climate and promoted them as tools to boost solar self‑consumption, cut electricity costs and improve grid resilience for households, commercial users and large‑scale developers.
