Vietnam Ministry of Education proposes new STEM education regulations

The Ministry of Education and Training is seeking public feedback on a draft circular to regulate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in general schools. The proposal aims to create a unified legal framework across the country to address inconsistent implementation between provinces and schools.

STEM activities are proposed to be organized in three formats: STEM lessons integrated into existing subjects, STEM experiential activities through clubs or practical experiences, and scientific and technical research projects for students with specific interests. The draft emphasizes that this initiative will not create new subjects, increase teaching hours, or add administrative pressure on teachers and students.

Furthermore, the draft allows for STEM activities to be conducted outside of schools, such as at production facilities, universities, research institutes, and museums, based on voluntary participation. The goal is to enhance digital literacy, scientific capacity, and practical problem-solving skills while ensuring equitable access for students in disadvantaged areas, including those with disabilities or from ethnic minority groups.
