Vietnam proposes stricter vehicle inspections for ABS errors

The Ministry of Construction is seeking public feedback on a draft circular that would reclassify ABS (anti-lock braking system) warning light errors as major defects. Under the current regulations (QCVN 122:2024/BGTVT), yellow dashboard warning lights, including the ABS indicator, are classified as minor defects, allowing vehicles to pass inspection despite the warning.

If the new proposal is approved, an active ABS warning light would be categorized as a major defect (MaD), meaning vehicles would fail inspection and require repairs before being re-evaluated.

Additionally, the draft proposes expanding the scope of vehicles required to be equipped with ABS systems. This would include most vehicles in categories M (passenger vehicles with four or more wheels) and N, excluding those with five or more axles.
