Vietnam proposes sweeping revisions to military service and civil‑servant recruitment laws
The Ministry of Defence has submitted a draft amendment to nine Vietnam defence‑related statutes, including the Law on Military Service, to tighten rules on draft‑evasion, define age limits for reserve officers and adjust benefits for conscripts. The draft also revises the Law on the People’s Self‑Defence and provisions for drone operators.
Separately, the government issued Decree No. 259, effective 1 July, outlining new recruitment, selection and prioritisation criteria for civil servants. It grants extra points to veterans, ethnic minorities, descendants of revolutionary fighters and other groups, and expands eligibility to include experts, scientists and leading entrepreneurs.
