Vietnam provides health insurance subsidies for students

Vietnam Social Security has detailed health insurance support policies for millions of students and pupils nationwide. Under the current regulations, students enrolled in the national education system are required to participate in health insurance, including civilian students studying at military and police academies, unless they are already covered under other groups.

The insurance premium is set at 4.5% of the reference level. With the current reference level at 2.53 million VND, the monthly premium is 113,850 VND, totaling 1,366,200 VND for 12 months. The state budget provides a minimum subsidy of 50%, meaning students only need to pay 683,100 VND per year.

Payment options are available in 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month cycles. Additionally, local authorities may provide further subsidies depending on regional circumstances to reduce the financial burden on families. New regulations under the Health Insurance Law are expected to be implemented in 2026 to further expand and secure participant benefits.
