Vietnam provinces accelerate disposal of surplus public land and buildings

The provincial governments of Ninh Bình and Tây Ninh are speeding up the handling of hundreds of surplus houses and land parcels left after recent administrative reorganisations. Ninh Bình reported a total of 839 surplus assets, of which 787 have been assigned for processing; 367 have been completed and the remainder are being prepared for lease, auction or conversion to public uses such as schools, health centres and cultural facilities. The province also identified an additional 52 assets beyond the original plan and is seeking approval to advance their disposal.

Tây Ninh’s inspection team flagged 420 surplus assets that remain unused, estimating that they lock up more than VND 2.7 trillion in land value. Among these, 137 sites are in the city centre and 155 are classified as “gold‑type” land with high commercial potential. The audit highlighted gaps in record‑keeping and legal documentation, urging the provincial leadership to create a shared database and accelerate the legal clearance and disposal of the assets to release the frozen resources.
