Vietnam speeds up construction of ethnic‑minority residential schools

Provincial authorities in Vietnam are accelerating the build‑out of ethnic‑minority boarding schools in remote border areas. In Điện Biên province, nine multi‑level residential schools that began construction in 2025 are being rushed to finish by 30 August, with an additional five schools slated to start in 2026. The province has mobilised about 1,200 skilled workers from local businesses and deployed ten officials to monitor progress, aiming to meet the 2026‑2027 school‑year deadline.

In Nghệ An province, a separate project of ten boarding schools for primary and lower secondary students is also in an intensive final‑stage. With a total investment of over VND 353 trillion, the schools will serve roughly 1,245 pupils and 84 teachers. Contractors report night‑time work and multiple shifts to offset delays caused by harsh weather and a shortage of construction labour. Both provinces intend to have the schools operational for the new academic year beginning in 2026‑2027.
